Cursor / AI IDE

Code editors like Cursor, Windsurf, and Zed that use built-in AI to write, edit, and refactor code from natural language prompts — the main tools powering the vibecoding movement.

Cursor and similar AI IDEs (like Windsurf, Void, and Zed with AI features) integrate large language models directly into the code editor, allowing developers to generate, edit, and refactor code through natural language commands. Unlike standalone chatbots, AI IDEs have context about your entire codebase, enabling more accurate suggestions. These tools have become the primary vibecoding environment — a founder can describe a feature and watch the IDE write it across multiple files. The risk is that speed masks quality issues: the code compiles and runs, but may contain security vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, and architectural decisions that become costly to reverse.
